For developers · buddi 0.1.0-pre.52 · host API 1.33

Open, local, and built to extend.

The same buddi under the hood: a core with no tools of its own, plugins for everything it can do, and teammates that are files you can read.

What buddi is made of

Everything is a plugin

The core has no tools; mail, the browser, memory, reminders, finance, weather and the rest are plugins, each read with you before it runs. Plugins bring their own pages and widgets. Today's plugins speak host API 1.33, the one buddi 0.1.0-pre.52 ships.

Any model, per teammate

The provider is one line. Anthropic, OpenAI, Ollama on this computer, or any OpenAI-compatible service. One line decides which company sees that teammate's requests. Bring an API key, or sign in with a Claude or ChatGPT subscription you already have.

Permissions by design

A teammate gets the tools its file names and nothing more. Sending mail, running a command or acting in a browser stops at a card that shows exactly what will happen, on the dashboard or on your phone; reject it and nothing did.

Fits your workflow

An MCP server for Claude Code and other clients: reads answer at once, writes become approval cards. The buddi extension lets your agents work in background tabs of the Chrome you are signed in to, paired by a six-digit code. Telegram for your phone.

Local-first

Every conversation, memory, file and backup, in a private Postgres. Your secrets, in the macOS keychain or an encrypted file vault on Linux; no command, page or tool prints one back. The dashboard loads nothing from the internet. There is no telemetry.

Open source

buddi is open source under the Apache 2.0 license, and early: a pre-release that runs every day on its author's machines and will have rough edges on yours. Issues and pull requests are welcome.

the person you are talking to. Today is {{today}}.

Under the hood: an agent is a markdown file.

  • 1The front matter names the tools the teammate may call. Nothing else is callable, and no conversation can grant more.
  • 2The provider is one line. Anthropic, OpenAI, Ollama on this computer, or any OpenAI-compatible service. One line decides which company sees that teammate's requests.
  • 3The body is the persona, in plain markdown. Keep it, rewrite it, or let Agent Father write one for you after an interview.

Listing a plugin.

Publish it to npm under your own name and add one file to withbuddi/buddi-market by pull request. The market check stages the package the way an install would, reads its manifest and provenance, and writes what it found into the entry: tools and tiers, hosts, timers, agents. The page can never claim less than the code does.

From the command line.

macOS and Linux, with Node 22 or newer. On a Mac, Homebrew installs the app: brew install withbuddi/tap/buddi. The Mac app and the npm package are the same buddi, on the same data folder.

npm, on macOS and Linux

$ npm install -g @withbuddi/buddi && buddi
→ installs, then opens the setup wizard in your browser

From Claude Code

$ claude mcp add -s user buddi -- buddi mcp
→ reads answer at once, writes become approval cards
